About the Osnabrueck Peace Forum |
The »Peace Forum« is cooperatively
organized by the University of Osnabrueck and the city of Osnabrueck.
The discussion and lecture series features prominent podium
speakers and round table discussions focused on issues relating
to the promotion and maintenance of peace. |
The city of Osnabrueck held the first Peace
Forum in its historical city hall in the spring of 1986. It
took place within the context of the growing arms race between
East and West and the resulting debates and issues such as NATO-rearmament
and the accompanying demonstrations and protests of the peace
movement, serving, of course, to heighten public attention on
issues of war and peace. Since then over
180 lectures and debates have taken place in the Peace Forum's
round table discussion series. |
In addition, 24 concerts have been
held within the Peace Forum's »musica pro pace«
concert series. The concert series features musical works
with peace-oriented themes, notable choral groups, orchestras,
ensembles and soloists. It takes place araound Osnabrück's
Day of Peace, held every October 25 on the anniversary of
the 1648 proclamation of the Westphalian Peace.
