Educational opportunities and social background are closely linked in Germany. Dealing with heterogeneity and inclusion continues to be a central issue in school education – a problem that has once again become clear in the latest PISA study. Social background is still the decisive factor for success at school and future careers. For decades, our education system has failed to get to grips with this problem, which has a massive impact on society as a whole. What needs to change in education policy and the education system? Is there a lack of political will? What can universities do to achieve greater educational equality? The Peace Talk looked at the many facets and consequences of unequal educational opportunities and disadvantages and discussed the specific challenges and possible measures.
