Veni creator spiritus – Concert for the Osnabrück Peace Day
Performers: Chamber Choir of the University of Osnabrück
Conductor: UMD Joachim Siegel, University of Osnabrück
Organ: Arne Hatje
Introduction: Prof. Dr. Stefan Hanheide, University of Osnabrück
musica pro pace also accompanies the 50th anniversary of the University of Osnabrück with its program. The spirit is an important component in the life of a university. Nobody wants to do mindless research or write a mindless Bachelor’s thesis. Spirit stands for inspiration, knowledge, enlightenment, wisdom and insight, also for creative power, pacification and consolation. A noticeably good spirit is to be wished for every university.
“Veni creator spiritus” is a medieval hymn that is based on and interprets biblical statements about the spirit of God. This and similar texts have been set to music many times, especially in choral music. A selection will be performed in the concert, including works by Johannes Brahms, Orlando di Lasso and John Rutter. Organ works by J. S. Bach will enrich the program.
